NEW JCM Solution | NEW JCM’s “Mobile Maintenance Station” Heads into the Gobi to Safeguard Central Asia’s Energy Pipeline

2026-07-02

Recently, the compressor maintenance project for Asia Gas Pipeline LLP (AGP) reached another key milestone with the successful completion of overhauls at both CCS4 and CCS6. Both units were started up successfully on the first attempt and are now officially back in operation. As a critical corridor for transporting natural gas from Central Asia to China, the AGP pipeline and its compressor stations serve as vital nodes that safeguard the stability of this cross-border energy artery and secure China’s energy supply. Leveraging its extensive turbomachinery expertise and comprehensive lifecycle service capabilities, NEW JCM executed the comprehensive maintenance tasks to rigorous standards, earning strong recognition from the customer. Through professional engineering services, NEW JCM continues to ensure the safe and reliable operation of this cross-border energy gateway, contributing its strength to energy infrastructure development under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The “Mobile Maintenance Station” Deep in the Gobi Desert

Located in a remote area where grasslands and the Gobi Desert converge, the project faced limited supporting resources and long supply cycles for materials and equipment. Once a specialized tool or a specific component was unavailable, whether sourced locally in Kazakhstan or temporarily shipped from China, the process could take days or even weeks — an unacceptable delay during a time-critical maintenance window.

The NEW JCM team’s answer was simple: bring everything they could possibly anticipate.

Drawing on years of hands-on experience in energy equipment maintenance services, the project team initiated a comprehensive assessment of operating conditions months in advance. By reviewing the technical documentation of the units, the team systematically identified almost every tool, spare part, and material that could potentially be required throughout the maintenance process. From small components such as sealing rings and fasteners to dedicated dismounting tools and high-precision testing instruments, nearly all critical supplies was fully prepared and stocked in advance — essentially packing a “mobile maintenance workshop” and transporting it to Kazakhstan. This meticulous preparation enabled the team to quickly begin operations upon arrival at the site, effectively avoiding extended downtime caused by shortages of tools or materials.

The “Technical Masterclass” of the Unit’s Overhaul

If material coordination tested the team’s overall planning capabilities, the precision overhaul of the compressor units was a true test of technical expertise. This project represented a brand-new exploration for both the client and the local industry. There were no mature maintenance records to reference and no established disassembly procedures to follow. Every bolt loosened and every component disassembled represented a brand-new exploration.

Relying on decades of accumulated expertise in the structures and characteristics of various compressor units, along with extensive hands-on experience, the NEW JCM engineering team successfully completed each “brand-new exploration.”From developing dismantling procedures and removing critical components to inspecting internal flow paths and verifying the complete-unit assembly, the engineers strictly followed international maintenance specifications and precisely controlled every assembly clearance and connection process. Upon completion of the reassembly, all performance indicators of the unit met the design requirements, and the equipment has been operating in sound condition.

The comprehensive standardized overhaul also served as a vivid “technical masterclass” for the customer’s team.Throughout the process, the customer’s team witnessed the rigorous and systematic overhaul procedures as well as the team’s advanced hands-on expertise, and expressed strong recognition of NEW JCM’s professional capabilities.

The “Engineer and Translator” Behind the Cross-Border Project

Beyond technical challenges, the execution of a cross-border project also requires highly efficient coordination and communication among multiple parties. As a China-Kazakhstan joint venture project, the AGP project required the NEW JCM team to bridge communication between Chinese and Kazakh teams throughout the maintenance process — from every technical briefing to every maintenance plan discussion. A lengthy communication chain, multiple stakeholders, and differences in language and cultural backgrounds all became invisible barriers that had to be overcome during project implementation.

In response, the NEW JCM on-site team took on the dual role of “Engineer and Translator” with great patience and professionalism. Grounded in technical expertise and supported by multilingual communication and hands-on demonstrations, the team broke down each maintenance procedure and operational detail step by step, ensuring that both the Chinese and Kazakhstani teams reached a clear understanding and alignment throughout the entire process.

Behind this confidence and efficiency also lies NEW JCM’s localized presence in Kazakhstan. With a local branch established in the country, the company is able to respond quickly to on-site needs, coordinate local resources, and effectively overcome the barriers of distance and time differences in cross-border services.
